We at Earthcry firstly would like to acknowledge Creator, Ancestors, Grandfathers, Grandmothers and Elders who guide and bring our works into being.
In August 2000 Sue Charles and John Hartley came together to form EARTHCRY AUSTRALIA their primary objective being to assist in raising the awareness of their peoples plight and of the desecration of our Mother Earth.
Within many communities throughout Australia the spiraling effect of continued poverty and oppression, is taking it's toll and has for many years been expressing itself in self harm drug/alcohol abuse and Family violence, many of our communities lack adequate services to address the continued and rising tide of hurt and frustration.
The breakdown within Family, the losing of respect and caring for each other is slowly eroding and eating out the heart and spirit of many communities often our Elders are not so much at a loss as to what to do but when initiating culturally appropriate and accountable programs and solutions, the lack of resources and support from government institutions in many instances becomes another stumbling block, and many a good initiative has gone up in smoke on the back burner, the life long learning and integral part our Elders forfill in community is either not acknowledged or simply ignored.
Many of our peoples are treading water daily in a sea of grief, despair and trauma in this environment it is hard to have a healthy vision of the future and if we have one it is hard to hold, when the battle to stay afloat, is day in, day out.
When we desecrate our Mother Earth we are in effect committing suicide, robbing our Children and aborting the still un-born generations that are yet to come, it is the thoughtless and selfish acts of naive people who profess to work in the name of progress, we need to awaken to the fact that we are, all of us, caretakers of country and collectively of
Mother Earth, that we all join up.When we pollute or pour poisons into our water ways we may as well inject deadly toxins into our blood stream when we plunder, desecrate and dig into our Mother Earth we may as well gauge out our own eyes and heart, if country is sick so are the people the two are not separate, yet we wonder, as to the cause of the sickness that is acting itself out on our young.
When in the name of progress vested interest flatten and desecrate our country they destroy the life cycles within that environment which echo's throughout the earth, they remove also our educational material, they are in effect knocking down and tearing out our bush schools and universities which severely impacts upon our whole inter-connectedness and relationship to country, how will our future generations come to know their purpose and belonging?
What good is progress when we desecrate all that is sacred replacing in it's wake yellow cake shrines and other monuments to human kinds naivete and greed, such so called progress can only lead us to our own destruction accompanied by madness and slow decay.
Mother Earth is crying, if we listen we can hear her, even above the wheels of industry and self-interest.
We from Earthcry Australia request the sharing of the storyboards be in a caring and supportive environment, that peoples receiving the storyboards are respectful, mindful that they are to be used in a good way, for a good purpose and for the benefit of all Peoples, Mother Earth and all she sustains.
